The Luton Digital Skills and Employment Project is a partnership project between Bangladesh
Youth League (BYL) & Luton Irish Forum (LIF) which started in July 2020 and ended in December
2023. The Project was part funded by European Social Fund. CYCD was the lead partner of this
ESF Funded Project.
The Project took place in Luton, an area with high levels of unemployment, economic inac}vity
and low skills, in par}cular digital skills and primarily targeted two speci昀椀c groups of local
residents:
*Unemployed adults aged 50+
* Unemployed (& Economically Inac}ve) Women, par}cularly from BME communi}es
The project provided a tailored programme of learning and support based (group and 121) on
4 building blocks:

Basic skills including Pre-entry level ESOL
Basic Digital Skills (Core)
Enhanced Digital Skills
Employment Support
Due to demand and needs of this par}cular work we have been awarded successive three years of
funding from The Henry Smith Charity to con}nue the service. The current funding stream is secured
un}l August 2026.
Over the life of the Project
< Engaged 457 participants; 219 unemployed & 238
economically inactive=
As a result of this engagement:
* 350 participants achieved AQA Level 1 Award/Basic Skills
* 42 unemployed participants gained employment
* 199 economically inactive participants gained
employment or moved into active job search
* 75% improved their confidence to apply or
enrol on other course
