Memorial for Aberdeen Scientist who
co-discovered Insulin unveiled at
Aberdeen’s Duthie Park
Professor JJR Macleod shared the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1923 and is responsible for saving
the lives of millions of people with Type 1 diabetes. Yet, despite his remarkable achievements,
few Aberdonians are aware of his legacy.
Made from reclaimed Aberdeenshire grey and Corrennie pink granite,
Fyfe Glenrock were commissioned to shape and finish the granite
walling, kerbs, paving and columns to the exacting memorial design
specification and to inscribe the stonework with sponsors lettering.
Team Fyfe Glenrock attend the JJR Macleod Memorial Unveiling Ceremony at
Duthie Park on Thursday 12 October.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
In July 2023 Markon were on site at Fyfe Glenrock to re-line the yard roadway
directional markings and internal factory walkways and walking man logos,
which had faded over time with normal wear and tear.
This has greatly improved safety and control of delivery and collection traffic,
visitors, and employees at our facility, and provided greater visibility for
keeping the road and walkways free from blockages, laydown materials, etc.
FYFE GLENROCK
COMMISSIONED TO
BUILD BESPOKE MEMORIAL
In March of this year, Fyfe Glenrock was contacted to work with a
customer requesting an unusual, bespoke memorial for their mother
which included precision waterjet cutting.
The customer had their own fabrication business and was looking for a
manufacturer who could work alongside them with their design template
for their memorial. The material chosen to go with their rot iron winged
surround was Paradiso, a blue/brown/red granite from India.
The challenge was to manufacture a recess bevelled memorial to precise
dimensions with teardrop features to fit with their surround exactly.
The stars can be specially removed for inscription at a future time.
The customer was delighted with the finished project.
