As we move ever closer to the year end, the
UK appears to have steered clear of a recession
and is on track to reduce this year’s inflation
to below the targeted level. However, the
consequence of the current high interest
rates is putting pressure on the construction
industry. Housebuilders, in particular, are
being affected as new builds are becoming
harder to sell due to higher mortgage costs. We have even seen some of the
larger construction projects, such as the A9 Tomatin to Moy dualling, being
significantly delayed by Government as a result of cost pressures.
The outlook for next year is most likely to be similar to this year with the real
recovery coming in 2025. Notwithstanding that, there are still numerous
opportunities which we are currently pursuing that gives me confidence for
the future.
The recent unveiling of the memorial for JJR Macleod is a great example
of the fantastic craftsmanship of our stonemasons and design team at Fyfe
Glenrock. It is humbling to know a local Aberdonian was instrumental in
developing insulin which has saved the lives of millions of people with Type
1 diabetes.
Our laboratories celebrated 25 years of UKAS accreditation which is a great
achievement and clearly demonstrates our commitment to quality which
has always been at the heart of the business.
The development of new products continues at pace with a particular
focus on concrete technology in recent months. The introduction of a
cementitious limestone filler validates our pledge to advance sustainable
solutions and reduce our carbon footprint.
I am encouraged to see the continued employment of apprentices
throughout the business as well as supporting pupils from local schools to
undertake foundation apprenticeships within the workplace. Our company
offers a wide array of careers with progression opportunities readily
available. We are delighted to see the achievements of our staff and would
encourage anyone wishing to pursue a successful and rewarding career to
contact us.
The company continues to assist local community projects and sponsors
events such as the Highland Games. It was great to read some of our staff’s
fundraising achievements by completing the Kiltwalk in Aberdeen and
Dundee raising money for their chosen charity.
I hope this issue of our Newsletter gives you a wider appreciation of the
numerous developments, activities and people successes we have in the
business. Although I don’t refer to every article, I am very grateful and
proud of everyone’s contribution and positive impact on our company.
The Christmas shutdown is fast approaching and I want to wish you all well
for the festive break and thank you for your continued commitment to our
business. I’m very much looking forward to next year and the successes
ahead.
