Stephen Brown – Assistant Quarry Manager
at Loch Hills Quarry
Colin Fraser – Lorry Driver
Colin Fraser started work with Leiths in the Transport Dept
in April 1987.
Stephen began his journey with Leiths in 2012 as a concrete batcher at Loch
Hills Quarry. This was a busy time as the Robert Gordon University project in
Garthdee, Aberdeen, was underway and Loch Hills was the provider for the
light aggregate concrete.
After a few years, Stephen moved on to become an HGV Class 2 driver
and worked on the tipper trucks delivering materials. Stephen was always
interested in the quarrying sector and applied for an operator’s role at
Northlasts Quarry. Here he drove a loading shovel and gained experience with
crushing and screening. He was then asked by the Site Manager to apply for
the Supervisors role, where Stephen gained further experience in managing
a small team and was involved in blasting operations. He has also worked in
various sites around Aberdeen and became more involved in sand and gravel
processing and site restoration works.
Stephen has now been promoted to the role of Assistant Quarry Manager
at Loch Hills, from where it all began. He is working with a bigger team and
enjoying the new challenges and is always looking to gain more experience
to enhance his career progress.
Colin began his career at Leiths over 35 years ago, initially driving a tipper
lorry, followed by a Mercedes flatbed truck. Colin was one of the main drivers
for NorDan, formally Aberdeen Windows and Doors, where curtain-side and
tail-lift vehicles, supplied by Leiths, carried their livery. Colin was always the
dedicated driver, delivering their fragile products across the whole of the
North of Scotland.
Throughout the years, Colin’s rapport with Nordan customers was unmatched
and many remain friends to this day. Some would tell Nordan that they only
wanted their goods if it was Colin who delivered to them!
In September, Colin, aged 67, took the difficult decision to retire from the
company. Many thanks to Colin for his continuous and dedicated service to
the business.
Colin (L) is pictured here with his final Leiths lorry, alongside Bob Adamson,
Fleet Manager, and other long-serving driver Dod Cook.
We wish Stephen well in his new role.
25 Year Long Service Award
Ian Henderson – Plant Department – 25 Years
Employee Update
Ian started with Leiths in 1999, primarily working out of Aberdeen before
being more northerly based covering the quarries at Newforres, Parkmore,
Bluehill and Longside along with supporting our Civil Engineering North
division’s transient sites.
Ellen McConville (Markon) became a new
mum earlier this year. Baby Zach decided to
make an early arrival on Saturday 22 June @
5:01pm (exactly 3 weeks early) weighing 7lbs
5ounces.
Ian is an invaluable member of the plant department – his can-do attitude
and passion for machines very rarely see him stuck. He’s never shy of asking
for information, which he will pass onto operators to aid their working day
and make sure plant runs smoothly.
Baby Zach (4 months old)
We wish Ian well in his continuing career at Leiths.
