OUR PRISONS
PROGRAMME
Children with a parent in prison are among the most
stigmatised, marginalised and under-represented
sections of society. They serve a "hidden sentence"
and have significantly lower life outcomes. We use
books to help build and maintain relationships
between parent and child, providing an accessible, low
pressure means to engage and advancing the
importance of shared reading within families.
The receipt of a gifted book from a parent in prison is
concrete evidence to the child that they are thought
about and that they shared time together. It is
developing shared interests, a source of mutual
entertainment and future conversation. It is a chance to
spend easy time together.

The books are exactly what’s needed for my daughter
to be able to feel close to Dad through them. Thank you.
