We Welcome a Legacy
Trustee to BRF
Welcoming a legacy trustee to the board is a
signi昀椀cant milestone for any nonpro昀椀t organization.
It symbolizes a shared commitment to building a
sustainable future and making a lasting di昀昀erence.
By harnessing the expertise, passion, and resources
of legacy trustees, nonpro昀椀t boards can strengthen
their governance, expand their reach, and create a
legacy that will endure for generations to come.
We are deeply pleased to welcome to the Brain
Research Foundation Board of Trustees, Karen
Mabie, Ed.S., NCSP, CEP. Karen holds a bachelor’s
degree in psychology and special education from
Vanderbilt University and Master’s and Specialist
degrees in Educational Psychology from National
Louis University. She is a Nationally Certi昀椀ed
School Psychologist, experienced in evaluating and
counseling students with learning, social, emotional,
and behavioral di昀昀iculties. Karen is Consultant/
Owner of The School Solution, which provides
consultation and placement services for families
with a child who is struggling in his or her current
environment despite therapeutic and
academic supports.
Karen’s father is John D. Mabie, Chairman and
Founder of Mid-Continent Capital, LLC, and currently
chairman of the BRF Honorary Board. John joined the
board in 1960 and has been a member of the board
and honorary board for 64 consecutive years. His
decades of support for BRF and its mission is the
longest relationship we’ve had with any trustee or
donor in our history. John and Karen both understand
that it takes steadfast passion to be part of the
journey for the long haul—because science
requires patience.
“Due to my father’s history and my
background and commitment to
understanding mental health and
developmental challenges in students,
I’ve been able to appreciate BRF’s values
and mission for many years. I am very
pleased to join the Board of Trustees
and look forward to working in step with
the board and sta昀昀 to ensure BRF’s
long-term success and sustainability.”
