Dear Friends,
Norman R. Bobins
Vice Chair
David H. Fishburn
Treasurer
David D. Olson
This past year was a big milestone. Brain
Research Foundation celebrated our
70th anniversary. And we were thrilled to
celebrate in person once again, raising over
$1 million for brain research at our annual
Discovery Dinner. I am extremely grateful
to our trustees, donors and friends who
continue to support the worthy work we do.

As the nation’s oldest organization
dedicated to brain research, BRF has a
rich history. Over the decades, we have
continued our mission to support the best
neuroscience research. BRF nurtures the
projects of researchers across the nation
with millions of dollars of funding, resulting
in the type of innovative research that
promises be琀琀er treatments for neurological
disorders and, ultimately cures.

I am very proud of the fact that BRF continues to use 100% of your donations
for neuroscience and will into the foreseeable future.
In this newsle琀琀er you will learn about just a few of the many projects BRF is currently funding.
Our feature article explains how Dr. Anna Molofsky’s lab is using a new model system to visualize
how a subset of brain cells can remodel the brain in real time. Another interesting project by
Dr. James DiCarlo looks at using non-invasive visual images to improve a person’s emotional state
and thereby be an e昀昀ective treatment for mood (depression) and anxiety-related disorders.

Brain Research
Foundation
is among the
fewer than 1%
of U.S.-based
non-pro昀椀t
organizations that have been
recognized with Candid’s
Platinum Seal of Transparency.
This distinction indicates that
Brain Research Foundation
shares clear and important
information with the public
about our goals, strategies,
capabilities, achievements
and progress indicators that
highlight the di昀昀erence the
Foundation makes in the world.
Of course, the longevity and impact the Foundation has had, and continues to have, is not
possible without the support of its trustees, friends and donors. I am so pleased to announce
our latest BRF Trustee, Karen Mabie. She is extremely interested in BRF because of her own
personal passion and her career as a certi昀椀ed school psychologist, experienced in evaluating
and counseling students with learning, social, emotional and behavioral di昀昀iculties. In addition,
she is very familiar with us because she is the daughter of longtime trustee John Mabie. We are
thrilled to have the next generation continue to play a part in BRF’s history.
We will continue our goal of advancing the understanding of the brain as long as we have
passionate donors that believe in what we do. I hope this newsle琀琀er inspires you to continue to
donate to our mission and that you are as proud as I am of the work we have done together.
Sincerely,
Terre A. Constantine, Ph.D.
