Imagine…
Your critic is telling you not to ask for the pay rise. Imagine it has told you that it’s fearful of being told
‘No’.
Can you recognise and acknowledge that is it just a part of you that fears ‘No’?
Is there another part of you that wants to help?
Can you create some distance and space inside for all of this?
Can you reassure the part that is worried about ‘No’ that it is OK, you’ve got this?
Can you ask if there is another part that can help with getting to Yes, and another part that can
imagine other options and possibilities? What else might be possible?
The ‘I’ of you doesn’t have to be dened by the part that would say No, nor the part that wants to help.
Notice here also, in this example, that the Inner Critic is worrying or anticipating something that hasn’t
yet happened. It is sitting in the future.
Be ready to let go of any temptation to ‘wrestle’ the critic away – as is so often the case.
Instead,
genuinely with open heart, ask it – ‘If you were to support me instead, what would that look like?’
