GO LEFT! HIGHWAYS ENGLAND LAUNCHES BIGGEST EVER
MOTORWAY ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN
Safety is Highways England’s top
priority. We believe that everyone who
travels or works on our roads should
get home safe and well.
We want drivers to feel safe on our roads
and be confident that they know what to
do in the unlikely event that their vehicle
breaks down on a motorway. That’s why
today we have launched our biggest
ever road safety campaign – Go Left. At
the moment only essential journeys are
allowed, but in the coming period when
restrictions are lifted, we want all drivers
to be ready and informed.
The campaign is underpinned by
research which shows that road users
are not as confident as they could be in
knowing what to do if they break down.
In response, we have developed the Go
Left campaign with the support of the
Department for Transport and with the
assistance of key partners in the roadside
recovery industry. This behavioural
change campaign seeks to drive greater
awareness and understanding about
what to do if you break down on a TV over the next six weeks and on social
motorway.
media and hear it on the radio - ‘Go left’.
At the heart of this campaign is a serious
message about how people can be safe
and feel safe on our motorways. It is
essential that we deliver a single clear
message which road users will retain
and draw on if needed in an emergency
situation. The advert uses distinctive
characters, music and humour, which is
widely evidenced by marketing industry
research to make adverts memorable
and effective.
To get behind it and share these important
messages, you can access links to the
adverts and images via our campaign
asset page, use the hashtag #Go_Left on
social media and get more information on
our website.
Some suggested wording for social
media:
