10 Effect of shielding gas: carbon monoxide
10.2 Stainless steel welding

Figure 32 shows the effect of various shielding gases for
welding stainless steel on the emission rate of carbon
monoxide.
The effects of formulation are very similar to those observed
in mild steel welding; that is, shielding gases containing
more carbon dioxide generate more carbon monoxide, as do
formulations containing higher concentrations of helium.
