Why use welding?
Welding is used because it is:
“T” joint
• One of the most cost-effective methods
of joining metal components
Air must be excluded
from heated area
• Suitable for a wide range of materials
and thicknesses
• Applicable to a wide range component
shapes and sizes
The joints produced by welding are:
• Permanent
Fillet weld
• Strong, usually matching or exceeding
the strength of the parent materials
• Leak-tight
• Reproducible
• Readily inspected by non-destructive
techniques
