INTERVIEW WITH PAUL MIDIAN
Paul advises, “When planning
significant change programs,
consider hiring additional resources
or engaging a third-party provider
to prevent your team from being
overwhelmed by conflicting
priorities, experiencing burnout,
or leaving security gaps.”
“It’s wiser to invest in securing the
right support or partnering with
security experts to mitigate risks,”
he adds.
Navigating the Regulatory
Landscape
Paul’s exposure to aviation, one
of the most heavily regulated
industries, gives him a unique
perspective on cybersecurity
regulations. While regulatory
frameworks in aviation bolster
passenger safety, cybersecurity
regulations face distinct challenges
due to the dynamic nature of
cyber threats.
As a result, regulators are often
left catching up. The key is to
provide regulators with a clear
understanding of the direction in
which the field is headed since
cybersecurity is still an emerging
discipline.”
Paul suggests that instead of
viewing regulators as obstacles,
we should consider them our
partners in advancing our collective
understanding of cybersecurity.
To achieve this, he emphasizes
the importance of facilitating a
two-way exchange of insights
and actively involving regulators
in cross-industry conversations.
Ultimately, he believes that dealing
with human beings is the most
crucial aspect of being proficient
in cybersecurity.
“Regulators are still grappling with
how to handle information security,
since the technology and threats
are evolving rapidly.
“IF YOU BECOME A DEPARTMENT
OF NO, THEN THE BUSINESS
WILL JUST GO AROUND YOU, AND
YOU’VE EFFECTIVELY LOST.
