Meaningful use of time
Core and central to our organisation values and Aspiring Lives approach, is that all people we support
receive support to utilise their time in meaningful ways for them. For some this might be with work or
volunteering, or education, but for others it may be that they spend time developing their interests,
passions or relationships with others and their neighbourhoods.
For people with complex needs this can be especially challenging as they may find it difficult to find
ways to occupy their time that also meets their sensory or mental health needs. It is also essential
that people are given support to rebuild confidence in the places they live, but are not overwhelmed
by the choices, sensory input and demands of everyday life and venues.

We achieve this by:
+ Utilising green spaces and outdoor gyms as much as possible – these
are free, quiet and there are no queues, with limited noise and smells
to contend with.
+ Supporting people to get motability vehicles or staff vehicles where
possible to avoid public transport and to be able to leave when they
are ready.
+ Working with local services and businesses in local towns, villages
and across Surrey to provide reasonable adjustments for this group
to access hair salons, shops, GPs, leisure centres and a range of new
experiences.
