You welcomed him back with success and
prosperity.
You placed a crown of finest gold on his
head.
He asked you to preserve his life,
and you granted his request.
The days of his life stretch on forever.
Your victory brings him great honor,
and you have clothed him with splendor
and majesty.
You have endowed him with eternal
blessings
and given him the joy of your presence.
For the king trusts in the Lord.
The unfailing love of the Most High will
keep him from stumbling.
You will capture all your enemies.
Your strong right hand will seize all who
hate you.
You will throw them in a flaming furnace
when you appear.
The Lord will consume them in his anger;
fire will devour them.
You will wipe their children from the face
of the earth;
they will never have descendants.

Although they plot against you,
their evil schemes will never succeed.

My son, pay attention to my wisdom;
listen carefully to my wise counsel.
Then you will show discernment,
and your lips will express what you’ve
learned.
For the lips of an immoral woman are as
sweet as honey,
and her mouth is smoother than oil.
But in the end she is as bitter as poison,
as dangerous as a d
ouble-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death;
her steps lead straight to the grave.*
For she cares nothing about the path
to life.
She staggers down a crooked trail and
doesn’t realize it.

HOW HARD-CORE ARE THESE WOMEN—
the midwives, Moses’ mom, his sister, even
Pharaoh’s daughter! Each took extreme risk in the face of grave danger. Risks in the name
of love and decency, opposition to evil, or the fear of God. Risks unseen and unsung in the
moment, now hailed for their impact in eternity. This is what women are made of—not
exactly sugar and spice and everything nice—but ferocity of heart, willingness to sacrifice, and bravery extreme. God has planted in each of us the ability to rise up, however
bleak the circumstances, and accomplish the mission. Created in his image, we surely
reflect his strength.

EXODUS 2:11–3:22
Many years later, when M
oses had grown up,
he went out to visit his own people, the Hebrews, and he saw how hard they were forced
to work. During his visit, he saw an Egyptian
beating one of his fellow Hebrews. 12 After
looking in all directions to make sure no one
was watching, M
oses killed the Egyptian and
hid the body in the sand.
13 The next day, when M
oses went out to
visit his people again, he saw two Hebrew
men fighting. “Why are you beating up your
friend?” M
oses said to the one who had
started the fight.
14 The man replied, “Who appointed you to
be our prince and judge? Are you going to kill
me as you killed that Egyptian yesterday?”

oses was afraid, thinking, “Everyone
knows what I did.” 15 And sure enough, Pha
raoh heard what had happened, and he tried
to kill M
oses. But M
oses fled from Pharaoh
and went to live in the land of Midian.
When M
oses arrived in Midia n, he sat
down beside a well. 16 Now the priest of Mid
ian had seven daughters who came as usual
to draw water and fill the water troughs for
their father’s flocks. 17 But some other shepherds came and chased them away. So M
oses
jumped up and rescued the girls from the
shepherds. Then he drew water for their
flocks.
18 When the girls returned to Reuel, their
father, he asked, “Why are you back so soon
today?”
