of Israel rebelled against him, God was merci
ful to you instead. 31 Now they are the rebels,
and God’s mercy has come to you so that they,
too, will share* in God’s mercy. 32 For God has
imprisoned everyone in disobedience so he
could have mercy on everyone.
33 Oh, how great are God’s riches and wis
dom and knowledge! How impossible it is for
us to understand his decisions and his ways!
34
35
For who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to give him advice?*
And who has given him so much
that he needs to pay it back?*

“Is this the one who relies on the Lord?
Then let the Lord save him!
If the Lord loves him so much,
let the Lord rescue him!”
9
Yet you brought me safely from my
mother’s womb
and led me to trust you at my mother’s
breast.
I was thrust into your arms at my birth.
You have been my God from the moment
I was born.

by his power and is intended for his glory. All
glory to him forever! Amen.

My God, my God, why have you
abandoned me?
Why are you so far away when I groan
for help?
Every day I call to you, my God, but you
do not answer.
Every night I lift my voice, but I find
no relief.
15
Yet you are holy,
enthroned on the praises of Israel.
Our ancestors trusted in you,
and you rescued them.
They cried out to you and were saved.
They trusted in you and were never
disgraced.
17
But I am a worm and not a man.
I am scorned and despised by all!
Everyone who sees me mocks me.
They sneer and shake their heads,
saying,
16
18
Do not stay so far from me,
for trouble is near,
and no one else can help me.
My enemies surround me like a herd of
bulls;
fierce bulls of Bashan have hemmed
me in!
Like lions they open their jaws against me,
roaring and tearing into their prey.
My life is poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart is like wax,
melting within me.
My strength has dried up like sunbaked
clay.
My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
You have laid me in the dust and left me
for dead.
My enemies surround me like a pack
of dogs;
an evil gang closes in on me.
They have pierced* my hands and feet.
I can count all my bones.
My enemies stare at me and gloat.
They divide my garments among
themselves
and throw dice* for my clothing.
22:16 As in some Hebrew manuscripts and Greek and Syriac
versions; most Hebrew manuscripts read They are like a lion at.
22:18 Hebrew cast lots.
PROVERBS 20:7
7 The godly walk with integrity;
blessed are their children who follow
them.
BE CAREFUL HOW YOU WALK || T
he way we walk is very noticeable, particularly
to children. They pick up on a limp, a gait, or a side step, and often attempt to walk just
like us. It is a curse when our walk is anything but pure, honest, and characterized by
integrity. When we walk in integrity, we walk the way God made us and on the path he
has laid out before us. When children witness it and reproduce it in their own lives, they
are blessed, never embarrassed by those whose steps they follow.
