The nations have fallen into the pit
they dug for others.
Their own feet have been caught
in the trap they set.
The Lord is known for his justice.
The wicked are trapped by their
own deeds. Quiet Interlude*
The wicked will go down to the
grave.*
This is the fate of all the nations
who ignore God.
But the needy will not be ignored
forever;
the hopes of the poor will not
always be crushed.
Arise, O Lord!
Do not let mere mortals defy
you!
Judge the nations!
Make them tremble in fear,
O Lord.
Let the nations know they are
merely human.

9:16 Hebrew Higgaion Selah. The meaning of this
phrase is uncertain. 9:17 Hebrew to Sheol.

My child,* never forget the things
I have taught you.
Store my commands in your
heart.
If you do this, you will live many
years,
and your life will be satisfying.
Never let loyalty and kindness
leave you!
Tie them around your neck as a
reminder.
Write them deep within your
heart.
Then you will find favor with both
God and people,
and you will earn a good
reputation.
Trust in the Lord with all your
heart;
do not depend on your own
understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which
path to take.
3:1 Hebrew My son; also in 3:11, 21.
Lord, when the disciples asked, “Who is this man?”
(Matthew 8:27) it was a prayer—one you answered with
thunder-clap clarity. Give our leaders hearts to pray that
same prayer. Focus their attention on you today, Lord.
Amen.
GENESIS 24:52–26:16
When Abraham’s servant heard their
answer, he bowed down to the ground
and worshiped the Lord. 53 Then he

presents to her brother and mother.
54 Then they ate their meal, and the
servant and the men with him stayed
there overnight.
But early the next morning, Abra
ham’s servant said, “Send me back to
my master.”
55 “But we want Re
bekah to stay
with us at least ten days,” her brother
and mother said. “Then she can go.”
56 But he said, “Don’t delay me. The

Lord has made my mission successful; now send me back so I can return
to my master.”
57 “Well,” they said, “we’ll call Re
bekah and ask her what she thinks.”
58 So they called Re
bekah. “Are you
willing to go with this man?” they
asked her.
And she replied, “Yes, I will go.”
59 So they said good-bye to Rebekah
and sent her away with Abraham’s
servant and his men. The woman who
had been Rebekah’s childhood nurse
went along with her. 60 They gave her
this blessing as she parted:
“Our sister, may you become
the mother of many millions!
