“As surely as my new heavens and earth will remain,
so will you always be my people,
with a name that will never disappear,”
says the LORD.
“All humanity will come to worship me
from week to week
and from month to month.
And as they go out, they will see
the dead bodies of those who have rebelled
against me.
For the worms that devour them will never die,
and the fire that burns them will never go out.
All who pass by
will view them with utter horror.”

Manasseh Rules in Judah / 2 Kings 21:1-9 / 687 BC
Manasseh reigned jointly with his father Hezekiah from 697 BC to 687 BC. This period of co-regency is
included in the calculation of fifty-five years for the length of his reign.
1
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. His mother was Hephzibah. 2He did what was evil in the
LORD’s sight, following the detestable practices of the pagan nations that the
LORD had driven from the land ahead of the Israelites. 3He rebuilt the pagan
shrines his father, Hezekiah, had destroyed. He constructed altars for Baal and
set up an Asherah pole, just as King Ahab of Israel had done. He also bowed
before all the powers of the heavens and worshiped them.
4
He built pagan altars in the Temple of the LORD, the place where the LORD had
said, “My name will remain in Jerusalem forever.” 5He built these altars for all
the powers of the heavens in both courtyards of the LORD’s Temple. 6 Manasseh
