Teaching yourchildren to love the Lord in their early years will help them stay true to theLord later in life (see Proverbs 22:6, page 560).2. Make Sure Your Children Hear the Gospel Message. The gospelmust first be preached in the home (see Acts 16:29-34, page 988).3. Encourage Your Children’s Spiritual Growth. As the apostle Paulsuggests, a loving father encourages his children to live a life pleasing to God(see 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12, page 1086).4. Watch the Legacy You Leave. Your devotion to God—or lack of it—willmake a resounding impression on the next generation (see 2 Chronicles17:3-6, page 386).5. Discipline Your Children. Parents who love their children and want themto grow up into young men and women of character will discipline them (seeProverbs 29:15, page 566).6. Avoid Aggravating Your Children. Your discipline must be temperedwith love so that your children do not become resentful (see Colossians 3:2021, page 1082).As a Christian, one of the most dramatic changes in your life will be the way youspend your time. Your pursuits and ambitions in life will be different. After all,you are no longer living for yourself but for God. It may be a difficult transitionat first, but here are a few pointers we can glean from God’s Word.1. Place Christ before All Else. To be a true follower of Jesus Christ, youneed to be wholly devoted to him and let nothing else get in the way of yourdevotion (see Philippians 3:4-11, page 1076).2. Balance Christian Service with Worship. Don’t get so caught up in“serving” the Lord that you forget to worship him and get to know him better(see Luke 10:32-42, page 916).3. Don’t Waste Time Pursuing Things That Won’t Last. Your time onearth is short. Ask God to help you spend it on things that count (see Psalm39:1-7, page 482).4. Spend Time Feeding Your Soul. God offers blessings to you if youchoose to spend time with him rather than to devote your life to the pursuitof temporary satisfaction (see Isaiah 55:1-13, page 634).5. Keep Your Spiritual Zeal Alive. Work hard to keep that “fire” in yourheart burning brightly as you serve the Lord (see Romans 12:11, page 1014).
