Everyone has their own personal story—and yours is important,
not because of what you have done, but because you are part
of God’s big story. Sharing your story with someone might
seem a little scary, especially when it comes to sharing what
you believe. But it doesn’t have to be. Here are some things to
remember when you have an opportunity to tell your story:
It’s okay if your story doesn’t seem very exciting. You are a child of
God, and your story with him is unique and wonderful.
You are part of God’s big story.
Your story is bigger than you. You could talk about how
God created a good world, how sin infected the world, and
how God sent his Son, Jesus, to save us from sin and to
make it possible for us to live with God. (See “The Bible’s
Big Story: Old Testament,” pages 2.1–2.8, and “The Bible’s
Big Story: New Testament,” pages 3.1–3.8.)
Your sins have been forgiven.
?
You have a story worth telling
So what should you talk about as you tell your story?
There isn’t only one correct way to do it, and your story is
unique, but here are some ideas to get you started:
How Can I SHARE
TELLING YOUR STORY
Because Jesus died for us, when we believe in him, our sins
are forgiven and we don’t have to face the punishment we
deserve.
You have been saved to something,
not just from something.
Your story is still being written
Since your story with God is ongoing, it’s okay if it doesn’t wrap
up neatly. And you probably won’t tell it the same way twice.
Growth and new experiences will both add to the story and
shape your perspective on it.
Everyone’s story is different
Jesus didn’t just die for our sins; he rose again so that we
could live forever with God. For believers, that life with God
has already started! Through the power of the Holy Spirit,
you can live a transformed life now. God wants to be part
of every aspect of your life, changing your thoughts,
priorities, actions toward others—all of you!
Your story is going somewhere.
One day, Jesus will return, and this world will be
renewed. Sin and death will be gone, and we will
be with God forever.

You don’t have to make your story with God fit a certain formula
or sound like someone else’s. Tell it from your heart.
