Our impactCase studyTutor Trust and De La Salle School, St HelensDe La Salle School in St Helens has been a partner withTutor Trust since 2020/21.At De La Salle, education centres aroundCatholic values and personal relationships,emphasising academic excellence, faithformation, inclusion, respect for theindividual, service and social justice.In 2023/24 we supported:• 53 young people in Year 10 withscience tutoring• 34 in Year 11 with science tutoring.“There are so many differentreasons why students don’t alwaysprogress as they are able to, andwhen you see the positive impactthat tutoring can have, even forcreating a safe space to work in, itis very humbling, and encouragingthat small things have a big impactin people’s lives.”*pupils’ real names have been protectedThe Year 11s made an average of 1.2grades of progress in their GCSEs.Ellie* felt prepared for her GCSEs thanksto tuition. She described her favouritemoment as:“Going through past examquestions and being guided onhow to answer future questionslike them.”Adam* achieved an average grade of4.5 in his science GCSEs and believedin the power of tuition, saying:I feel it helps me get better“at science.”Tutor Kyle Betteridge, a charteredphysicist, is passionate about scienceand maths and has been a tutor with ussince 2020.
