Our story
To give our story the treatment it truly deserves, we’d need a couple of props: a large family photograph
album and a world atlas. The album would have pictures dating from the present day all the way back
to our founder Charles Taylor over 130 years ago. And the atlas would have many dog-eared pages,
including those featuring Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Java and Rwanda. Because our tale is both a local
and a global one. Though still a Yorkshire family business, that family’s now an extended one, and includes
honorary members – farmers and their relatives – whose welfare and livelihood matter dearly to us.

Sourcing
Tasting
Roasting
Blending
For us, sourcing’s about
more than just finding
great coffee farmers. It’s
about giving those farmers
stability through longterm contracts and fair
prices. We’ve even given
the process a name (and
initials): Taylors Sourcing
Approach (or TSA).
Our “Q graders”? They’re
Jedi masters of quality
control. Certified by the
Coffee Quality Institute,
they’re a notoriously hardto-please bunch. Up to
100 samples a day are
scrutinised by them and
face immediate, coldhearted rejection.
There’s no doubt in the
mind of anyone drinking
our coffee that roasting
is an art form. Our
roasters’ masterful use of
a traditional drum roaster
coaxes out delicious and
unexpected flavours.
(Blackcurrant and red
apple? Really?)
To bring together
coffees with contrasting
but complementary
characteristics is a blender’s
challenge and delight. A
successful creation is as
remarkable and delicious
as its constituent parts.
Blending is itself a blend –
of skill and sorcery.
