Referrals
All school staff have the opportunity to engage with the various approaches that we have
at our disposal through training workshops and experiential days.
This ensures that we have a communal working knowledge base regarding the theory behind our
therapeutic practices and referrals are generally received from members of the Learning Mentor Teams
after informed discussion with parents/carers. In addition, students can and do refer themselves for
counselling/therapy, often as a result of a peer recommendation.
Whilst the majority of sessions take place on an individual basis, group work does also feature on the
therapy timetable and family therapy is also available if deemed beneficial to individual students’
placements. As well as offering therapy sessions to students, the school also provides a counselling facility
for staff in recognition of the need to promote the psychological and emotional wellbeing of the whole
school community.
