21-year milestone
for Adelaide Nursing School
ADELAIDE NURSING SCHOOL TIMELINE
The University of Adelaide’s
nursing program has travelled
a long way in its Þrst 21 years.
1995
Following a review of the
education of nurses at the
Royal Adelaide Hospital,
the University set up a
Department of Clinical
Nursing in collaboration
with the hospital.
Five registered nurses
working in staff
development were
seconded to the University
to set up and coordinate
the new programs.
Professor Alan Pearson
was appointed inaugural
Professor of Nursing and
Head of Department.

fter a low-key launch delivering
courses to postgraduates in 1995,
it has been transformed into one of
Australia9s most highly rated teaching and
research schools of nursing.
