Lumen’s light
In Adelaide’s light,
Lumen minds spark, deep and bright,
Words take gentle flight.
Thoughts in quiet bloom,
Shared beneath the southern moon,
Wisdom fills the room.
Eyes of wonder gleam,
Threads of knowledge, like a stream,
Flow in endless dream.
Each voice, soft yet strong,
In the heart where words belong,
Echoes linger long.
Adelaide, so warm,
Cradles minds through every storm,
Learning is our norm.

Time’s journey
Time is just a concept, but the memories
of Adelaide University will last a lifetime.
From the first lecture halls to late-night
study sessions, every moment contributed
to shaping who I am today. The University
wasn’t just a place of learning—it was
where I discovered my passion for
finance, problem-solving, and strategic
thinking. The challenges I faced, both
academically and personally, helped me
grow and prepared me for the professional
world. Beyond the theories and
assignments, it was the friendships, the
shared experiences, and the lessons learned
that left a lasting impact. Adelaide will
always be a part of my journey, long after
the final exams and graduation celebrations.
Lumen readers’ are invited to enter our
special ‘Time Issue’ competition.
We have five packs of the Waite Fortified
Trio to give away as well as five copies of
the new novel Chinese Postman, signed by its
illustrious author and alum Brian Castro.
The wine packs include a Liqueur Sweet
White (aged an average 20 years in barrel),
the Waite Tawny and the Waite Muscat
(both with an average age of 10 years from
fruit grown at the Waite campus). More
information on these wines, and others, at
the Adelaide University wine store online
(adelaideuniwinery.com.au).
Our next issue of Lumen will examine the
concept of ‘the future’ from multiple angles.
To enter this contest, we invite you to

future – or what excites you about what is
ahead. It may be climate change or artificial
intelligence or security issues. Or it may be
the changes the University is going through.
The choice is yours - in 100 words or less.

Lumen
Live!
A new series of events is being planned for
this year, to bring the stories of Lumen
to life.
Our exclusive story last year revealing
the identities of the students who hung that
FJ Holden from the Uni footbridge back in
1971 sparked huge interest.
Reproduced prominently by media print, online and broadcast - it reached an
audience of more than 750,000 people!
Now we plan to give you the chance to
meet some of the people involved at an
event on campus with drinks and nibbles
– showcasing our new restaurant Taikunthi
in the recently refurbished Union House.
Details are being finalised, but we’ll keep
you updated.
Similarly, we intend to introduce a “movie
night” with our regular film columnist Ben
McCann (featured in this issue writing
about movies and time).
This will again feature a special movie
package from Taikunthi and it will be
held in the adjacent Union Cinema.
Finally, we have featured members of our
Waite winemaking team in the pages of
Lumen in recent years as columnists. This
issue we have winemaker and awardLUMEN
winning wine educator Jill Bauer making her
debut, writing about how time impacts on
wine, with prizes of a trio of aged fortified
wines to be won.
For this event we plan to set up a special
Lumen Live! wine tasting in Union House
featuring the superb wines created by
students and staff at our Waite campus, with
insights from the makers.
You’ll have a chance to sample and buy
some of our ever-expanding range of wines
and spirits now also available via our
University wine store (adelaideuniwinery.
com.au).
These events will welcome alumni, staff
and students. Keep an eye on your inbox for
updates and details!
