New Alumni
Council Chair
The University of Adelaide Alumni
Council has welcomed a new Chair:
Ms Robyn Mudie.
Robyn was born and raised in
Adelaide and holds a BA (Hons)
from our University (1989).
She is a senior career officer with the
Department of Foreign Affairs and
Trade. Over the course of her career, she
has served in Hanoi, at the Australian
Permanent Missions to New York and
Geneva, and as Australian High
Commissioner to Sri Lanka and the
Maldives. Most recently, Robyn was
Australian Ambassador to Vietnam
from 2019 to 2022.
Robyn will be Chair of the Alumni
Council for two years, until 31 August
2025. She replaces Louisa Rose who
held the position for eight years.
The University acknowledges and
thanks Louisa for her huge contribution
to the Council and the University, and
welcomes Robyn to her new role.
The Alumni Council was established
in 2014 to help increase awareness
about what it means to be an alum of the
University, build a sense of pride, foster
connections, grow alumni programs, and
keep alumni informed.

into the spirit of this issue by providing this

150 Scholarships for 150 Years
A scholarship program is fundamental to a
university’s vision and objectives. This was a
tradition embedded in the core foundations
at the University of Adelaide, when the Hon.
John Howard Angas established the first
philanthropic scholarship in 1878.
John Angas was driven by a strong desire
to encourage scientific training, especially in
civil engineering, and to develop the skills
required for the colony of South Australia.
Throughout our sesquicentenary year,
we will be continuing that tradition with
our 150 Scholarships for 150 Years.
Establishing a scholarship can change a
life, and is one of the most meaningful ways
to ensure the University of Adelaide’s 150
years of excellence continues to be available
for the very best and brightest students,
whatever their background or circumstance.
Together with our community, we will
continue to transform lives through the
gift of education.
When you donate to the University of
Adelaide, you can be confident that 100
per cent of your donation will go towards
your chosen area. To find out more about
establishing a scholarship please contact our
development team on +61 8 8313 5800 or
development@adelaide.edu.au
On the 25th October 1878, John
Howard Angas gave £4,000 to the
University to provide scholarships to
encourage the training of scientific
men, and especially civil engineers,
with a view to their settlement in
South Australia.
The Angas Engineering Travel
Scholarship is still awarded today.
Celebrate 150 - Give to the future
Our sesquicentenary year is a time for us all
to celebrate 150 years of education at the
University of Adelaide. We will commemorate
the occasion through Celebrate 150 - Give to
the future which will be an avenue for alumni,
donors and friends to engage more deeply
with the university.
Celebrate 150 - Give to the future will raise
funds to support the gift of education, which
will continue to transform lives, inspire
innovation and push boundaries. Together
we will make history, celebrate 150 years
of excellence, break new ground and
remove barriers.
There is a wide range of ways you can be
involved – the details can be found at the
QR code below.
Celebrate 150 - Give to the future follows on
from our very successful first Giving Day,
held in October last year which, thanks to
more than 500 individual donors, raised
more than $450,000 to support our
students, researchers and the wider
community.
We will celebrate Giving Day again this
year on 5 September.
