Robin Wilson

We are sad to inform you that Robin Wilson,
Headmaster of Trinity School from 1972 to 1994,
passed away peacefully on 19th December 2024.
During his 22 years as Headmaster, Robin made an
enormous contribu}on to the development of the
School and its facili}es, including the building of the
Berthoud Centre in 1981, the Turner Building in 1987
and the Shaw Building in 1994, culmina}ng in the
opening of the Wilson library.
A suitable full obituary is in prepara}on, in
collabora}on with his daughters, Olivia and Kate,
recognising Robin9s many achievements.
In 1973, Stuart relocated to Northern Virginia to
establish the North American division of Fokker
Aircrav as President and CEO. He 昀氀ourished both
professionally and personally, marrying Kaye and
blending their families. Stuart9s greatest career
achievement was leading the sale of 150 Fokker
aircrav to American Airlines, the transac}on, which
along with Stuart9s signi昀椀cant contribu}on to the
avia}on industry, was recognized by Queen Beatrix of
the Netherlands, who anointed Stuart a Knight of the
Order of Orange Nassau in 1993.
Aver re}ring from Fokker in 1994, Stuart became
President and Chief Execu}ve O昀케cer of the Flight
Safety Founda}on, where he championed global
avia}on safety un}l 2007. His impressive
contribu}ons were later acknowledged with two
honorary doctorates and a building at the University
of Hervordshire in England being named aver him.
There was a family funeral service in Plymouth early
this year and a Memorial Day to celebrate Robin9s life,
is planned to be held at the School in late May
Robin, as a past President of the Trinity MidWhitgivian Associa}on was a great supporter of the
Club and par}cipated enthusias}cally in our ac}vi}es,
par}cularly as a golfer and a thespian with the Mitres.
He will be missed by us all.
Aver Kaye9s passing in 2019, Stuart se琀琀led in Florida
in 2022. His 昀椀nal year was spent peacefully on a lake
surrounded by wildlife with the loving support of
family members and his devoted caregivers.

Sir Stuart Ma琀琀hews passed away peacefully at his
home in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on 13th October 2024
at the age of 88, following a very peaceful decline.
His lifelong passion for avia}on began in childhood,
inspired by war}me bombers 昀氀ying over London. As
London was unsafe, during World War II, Stuart and
his mother and brothers were evacuated to North
Wales while his father served in the Royal Air Force.
Stuart9s legacy of hard work, generosity, and love
leaves an indelible mark on all who knew him. He is
survived by his children, Anthony, Caroline, and
Joanna; stepdaughters, Sophie and Liane; six
grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He later a琀琀ended Middle Whitgiv School, excelling in
academics and sports. At 17 years old, Stuart earned
an RAF Flying Scholarship and his Private Pilot's
License, se琀�ng him on the path to an illustrious
avia}on career. He began his engineering journey at
de Havilland, working on early jetliners such as the
Comet. Stuart contributed to the design of Concorde9s
iconic nose at the Bri}sh Aircrav Corpora}on before
