Dearest friends of The Stephenson Institute for Classical Liberalism,The closing of the fall 2023 semester marks the completion of my first full fiscal yearas director of The Stephenson Institute for Classical Liberalism at Wabash College. This past year has been nothing short of an invigorating and rewarding experience. Iam proud and confident in the programming that we have produced thus far, and I amexcited about what we have planned for the future. It is a dream come true for me tobe entrusted with this responsibility. It is truly a privilege to build the Institute andguide it towards becoming one of the premier outfits for classical liberal research andlearning.A LETTERFROM THEDIRECTORDaniel J. D’AmicoThe 2022-2023 academic year showcased many milestones for the Institute. We hired and continue to support our fulltime staff, wecompleted construction on our newly renovated office space, we hosted a full calendar of on-campus guest-lecture events, inaugurated an annual summer seminar, and welcomed our first cohort of scholars in residence.Student engagement is and will forever be my passion and primary purpose as an academic. I aspire for the Institute and itsprogramming to enhance and elevate the educational value that all students and faculty experience on Wabash’s campus andbeyond. It is difficult to showcase the totality of all that the Institute has accomplished in this first year of full operation, but it isimportant to provide some flavor of what we have achieved thus far.For those members of the greater Wabash community, be you students, faculty, alumni, staff or friends, please stay informed of ourupcoming events and opportunities by visiting our website. All of our on-campus events are free and everyone should feel welcometo attend whenever schedules permit. For our friends and readers across other institutions and throughout the academy, please keepin touch by sending us reliable and up to date contact information. Furthermore, please inform us if you have any interest inparticipating in our activities or if you would like to explore new prospects for partnerships and collaborations in the future.I’m often confronted by friends and colleagues who express deep concerns about the conditions and state of affairs surroundingpublic discourse, national politics, and academic inquiry. The prospects of a free and open society seem precarious, as theintellectual foundations needed to understand and protect individual liberty have become rarities across the landscape of highereducation. The programming and support provided by The Stephenson Institute represent a unique opportunity to address theseconcerns. I am inspired and proud to direct The Stephenson Institute for Classical Liberalism from Wabash College’s institutionalvantage, if only because Wabash’s cultural response is so natural and straightforward. Why fight for the free society, at Wabash?Simply put… Wabash Always Fights!Thank you for taking the time to read our annual report and for engaging with the hard work and efforts of the Institute. We hopethat you will consider attending one of our many events soon.Yours in liberty,Daniel J. D’AmicoDirector, The Stephenson Institute for Classical LiberalismPAGE 3
