WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
At least 2,000 miles of rivers and streams are
better protected and reconnected
More than 15 million sea-run fish return to
Maine's rivers each year
ABOUT THE PHOTOS
Years of surveys by stream crews across Maine have resulted in the nation’s—and quite possibly the
world’s—most comprehensive inventory of road-stream crossings. This information helps identify the
projects that will yield the most benefit for nature and people, building on main-stem successes like
the nature-like bypass around the Howland Dam, which allows sea-run fish to pass upstream from
the Penobscot River into the highly productive Piscataquis River basin.
