The Figgery
D A N P AT T I N G A L E
The Figgery is loacated on
in Stokes Bay, on the north
coast of Kangaroo Island. Our
main product is our ‘Sticky
Figs’.
They’re called ‘Sticky Figs’
because they’re cooked in
a sugar syrup, then they’re
drained off and dried. They
are one hundred percent
grown here at Stokes Bay,
only from my orchard and
there are no preservatives
apart from the sugar and the
drying process.
The mother tree is about
fifteen kilometers down the
north coast, and is about one
hundred and forty years old.
I took cuttings from that tree
and then had all these figs
and didn’t know what to do
with them. I started making
sticky figs and that’s where it
all came from.
They’re great with sharp
cheeses, blue cheeses, cured
meats and just on their own
as a snack.
