Island Olives
MICHAEL ESPOSITO
I’m a second generation olive
farmer, the grove was started
by my mum and dad in the
early nineties with around
3000 olive trees. Since then,
I’ve come back to help with
farming operations and to
help grow the business.
The hardest thing about being
an olive grower is ensuring
that the produce, the fruit
that you grow, is top quality.
The best way to describe
our farming method is a
process called regenerative
agriculture. This method
essentially aims to improve
the health of the soil through
building up all the organic
matter content. It’s a natural
process, it does take time, but
if you’re into olives, you’re in it
for the long run, not the short
run.
We hug and kiss and sing
and do whatever we need to
do to our trees to make them
happy, to make sure they’re
not stressed and to ensure
they yeild good quality fruit.
