Sharing Knowledge
GFN provides key opportunities for food bank leaders to connect, learn, and share best
practices through both in-person and virtual events.
In October 2023, GFN held the Asia Pacific Food Bank Conference in Bangkok, Thailand—
the first in-person meeting for the region since 2019. More than 40 leaders from 15 food
banks across 11 countries gathered to address pressing challenges in the region. Participants
also visited GFN member Scholars of Sustenance Thailand and received a firsthand look at
community food distribution efforts.
In early 2024, GFN hosted the Africa Food Bank Conference in Accra, Ghana, bringing
together 14 food banks from 12 countries to discuss shared challenges. Attendees visited Food
for All Africa (FFAA) to learn about its Agricultural Food Loss Recovery Warehouse and smallscale farmer donation programs.
FoodForward South Africa also hosted the GFN Fellowship Exchange in Cape Town, a
weeklong program where members of the Accelerator program’s second cohort and New
Food Bank Development program learned from one of the largest and longest-running food
banks on the continent, as well as numerous virtual events on topics ranging from carbon
credits to food safety to cold chain fundamentals.
