Supporting Expanding Food Banks
GFN’s Food Bank Accelerator program empowers newer food banks to learn from other
food banks, expand services, and establish credibility. The program provides technical and
financial support, mentoring, peer-to-peer connections, food safety training, and partnership
opportunities where the food banking model is relatively unknown and the need is great..
In 2023, 18 food banks in the Accelerator program served 14.5 million people and distributed
27.5 million kilograms of food.
At the end of FY2024, the Accelerator’s first cohort successfully transitioned from
the program to become member candidates of the Network. The second cohort of
the Accelerator continues to progress in its development and operational efforts.
The latest cohort consists of three food banks in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia,
and the Philippines) and five food banks in Africa (Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic
of Congo, Ethiopia, Madagascar, and Nigeria).
