FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE VIIAdvanced French VII continues the intensive exploration of Francophone civilization, culture, and literature, while also emphasizing further oral communication and writing skills.A review of advanced grammatical concepts based on students’ speci昀椀c needs supportsengagement with short stories, literary excerpts, videos, poems, and articles from Frenchmagazines or newspapers, all chosen for thematic or cultural interest. Some of the unitsinclude street art, contemporary poets, uses of AI, excerpts from Voltaire’s Candide, atimeline of French history, and French Canadian short movies. Students engage in discussions about daily situations as well as cultural aspects of French and Francophone countries, express opinions and perspectives in speci昀椀c reading, deliver oral presentations,participate in formal debates, and write several compositions and poetry.Prerequisite: French Language and Culture VINote: This course is open to students in grades 9-12.SPANISH I¿Quienes somos? In this course, students independently use their learning to developa sense of individual and cultural identity. They learn to empathize with others acrosslinguistic and cultural differences by effectively and con昀椀dently communicating andexpressing themselves in basic contexts while applying language structures to createmeaning for a variety of purposes. Students learn vocabulary and structures in thetarget language in culturally authentic contexts through speaking, listening, reading, andwriting. We focus on student-centered, project-based learning so that participants cangain greater ownership of and interest in the material. The key themes within the courseare introductions, descriptions of self, family, housing, clothing, and activities.Assessments include creating a family tree and hosting an open house event withtheir peers.WORLD LANGUAGESNote: This course is open to students in grades 7-12.
