Two years had passed since Peter9s death

the Army, obtained from the National
Archives and held by the Califon Historical
Society, displays the family9s perseverance
in the face of unending bureaucracy. The
family and Army exchanged at least five

likely more. Throughout the correspondence, the Farleys worry incessantly about
their old age, the logistics of receiving the
body, and the date of Peter9s return. In response, they received unsatisfying, boilerplate letters. But they continued to write
