Corrado Feroci9s success led to an opportunity of high
honor: sculpting a statue of King Mongkut (King Rama VI).
With support from Prince Narisara Nuvadtivongs, Feroci
began by sculpting only the head and later completed
the entire statue in 1925. Although work was temporarily
halted due to King Mongkut9s death, Feroci finished
casting a full-length bronze statue of King Rama VI
a year later, with Prince Narisara overseeing the project.
Feroci later became a Thai citizen and changed his
name to Silpa Bhirasri. In 1926, Professor Silpa Bhirasri
completed the full-body bronze statue of King Rama VI,
which is enshrined at The Royal Pantheon (Prasat Phra
Thep Bidon) and The Temple of the Emerald Buddha
(Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram). He sculpted the
statue using Western art principles, achieving a realistic
portrayal that demonstrates his anatomy and detail
precision. Professor Bhirasri also presented a prototype of
the King Rama VI statue to the committee overseeing the
statue9s construction. After adjusting various details, the
final statue was completed in 1942 and is now located in
the center of Lumphini Park. The statue of King Rama VI is
a significant work from Professor Silpa Bhirasri9s early period
in Siam, showcasing his remarkable talents and expertise.
