During the reigns of King Rama V and King Rama VI, many European artists were
commissioned to create works of art in Siam. Their arrival introduced academic
principles, knowledge, sciences, and artistic styles from the Western world. This
allowed local artists to study European doctrines and techniques, leading to the
creation of European-style artworks. Additionally, the monarchs9 acquisition of
European artworks for royal palace decorations allowed Thai painters to learn
from these pieces, particularly the modern European interest in human stories,
