Galileo Chini is renowned for his expertise in painting, porcelain painting on
stained glass, and artistic architectural designs. His works, created during his
time as an artist in Europe, encompass the influential style of Neo-Impressionism,
which emphasizes the use of colored dots to create a sparkling effect. He also
produced historical paintings that blended the classical aura with the delicate
and beautiful coloring of fairy characters, patterns, and symbols. These
historical paintings once caught the eye of His Majesty of King Chulalongkorn
(King Rama V) during his visit to the Venice Biennale Art Festival in 1907.
This encounter led to Chini being invited to Siam to work on decorating
the dome of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall. The painting displayed
here is another rare and valuable oil painting by Chini. It reflects his skill
in creating symbols representing Western and Thai angels within a single
composition. This piece is believed to have been created by Chini as part of
a building9s decoration, possibly above a window arch or doorway. It illustrates
Chini9s interest in incorporating Siamese elements - symbols, lifestyles,
atmospheres, and various characters - into his work after he came to Siam
for this significant project. During his stay in Siam, Chini created numerous
private oil paintings. These included depictions of the country9s atmosphere,
people9s lifestyles, scenes along the Chao Phraya River, and imaginative
works. After returning to Italy, Chini continued his artistic endeavors.
In 1914, he was invited to participate in the Venice Biennale with his private
gallery titled
