Prasong Luemuang, born in 1962 in Lamphun Province, exhibited an interest in
art from a young age. He studied art at Sirikorn Fine Arts School in Chiang Mai
and furthered his education in the Department of Thai Art at the Faculty of
Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University. Prasong is one of
the pioneering artists who explored the representation of Thai identity through
the Lanna identity. He combines artistic techniques, the conveyance of local
experiences and culture, with his personal experiences. Prasong affirmed his
Lanna identity amid a context where Thai art was predominantly influenced
by the mainstream culture of Central Thailand. During 1987-1988, while in his
fourth and fifth years at Silpakorn University, Prasong9s works won numerous
awards.

in simple, delicate patterns and colors. The piece transitions from realism to a
reflection of personal impressions and stylistic expression.
