Kiettisak Chanonnart, National Artist in Visual Arts (Painting) from the year 2006,
was born in Lampang in 1943. His paintings exude an aura of mystery and reflect
an imaginative state that transcends reality. Kiettisak began his art education
at the College of Fine Arts and continued at Silpakorn University in 1959. He
initially worked as an art technician at the Department of Academic Affairs
before becoming a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, King Mongkut9s
Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in 1971. He taught art while consistently
creating his own work until his retirement. Throughout his career, Kiattisak has
received numerous awards from the National Art Exhibition and has participated
in many international exhibitions. He is interested in blending the influences of
surrealism with inspirations drawn from Thai experiences, lifestyle, and beliefs. His
work evolves with his experiences, addressing themes such as life and death,
Buddhist principles, way of life, social events, war, and economic crises.
Between 1980 and 1988, Kiettisak expanded on his earlier themes of the cycle
of life, aging, illness, and death, which he had been exploring for a decade.
