Ithipol Thangchalok was honored as a Thai national artist in the field of visual arts
(painting) in 2008. Born in Bangkok in 1946, he devoted over 40 years to creating
abstract works. His artistic journey began at the College of Fine Arts, followed
by advanced studies in the Department of Painting at Silpakorn University.
After graduating with honors in 1970, he pursued a master9s degree at Washington
University, Seattle, USA, in 1973, supported by a Thai government scholarship.
Returning to Silpakorn University, he served as a lecturer in the Department
of Painting from 1976, later achieving the position of professor in 2008. Ithipol
Thangchalok passed away in 2021 at the age of 75.
Throughout his life, Ithipol explored the abstract genre, often expressing beauty
and significance through juxtapositions of opposites, such as water-fire or
light-dark. He employed a fusion of painting techniques and printmaking,
meticulously layering colors and textures until achieving his desired outcome.
