Thongchai Rakpathum, a National Artist in Visual Arts
(Painting) for the year 2010, was born in 1941. He began
his formal art education at Poh-Chang Academy of Arts
(1961-1963) and later continued his studies at Silpakorn
University (1961-1965). Thongchai was awarded a scholarship
by the Italian government to pursue an advanced diploma
in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (1974-1977).
Alongside his career as an artist, Thongchai served as a faculty
member at the College of Fine Arts, eventually retiring as the
Rector of the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute under the Ministry

strips of color in the foreground, enhancing the sense of
movement and reflecting the dynamic, ever-changing
nature of the environment.
