Chakrabhand Posayakrit, a national artist in the field of visual arts (painting), for
the year 2000, was born on August 16, 1943, in Bangkok. He has been acclaimed
as a prominent artist and master craftsman of Bangkok, owing to his diverse
portfolio encompassing both contemporary and traditional Thai art. His works
range from modern art to traditional Thai art, including portraiture, narrative
paintings from literature and Buddhist stories, blending elements of Western
realism and Thai idealism. He also creates exquisite sculptures reflecting Thai
craftsmanship, such as Buddha images and figurines. Moreover, he has been
recognized with numerous awards from National Art Exhibitions, obtained
honorary doctorate degrees in art from various institutions, and received the
National Outstanding Person Award for the Promotion of Thai Civilization in 2009
bestowed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX). Furthermore,
Chakrabhand founded the Chakrabhand Posayakrit Foundation, which serves
as both a museum and a puppet theater.
