Tawee Nandakwang, originally from Lamphun, travelled to
Bangkok to study art at Poh-Chang Academy of Arts and
Silpakorn University. At 31, Tawee was honoured as an
8Artist of Distinction9. His signature works, which brought
him fame, include oil paintings of landscapes and still lifes
created in the Post-Impressionist style.
In 1983, Narong Thiwphaingam, the director of Thiwphaingam
School, commissioned Tawee to paint a series of twelve
pieces to decorate the school9s auditorium. This series
included paintings of a lotus pond, a seaside, a waterfall,
a poppy field, a Mexican sunflower field, and a view of the
school from the Chao Phraya River. Tawee spent three years
completing this series. Later, Narong commissioned
two additional paintings for his home: one of a rock garden
and another of orchids, showcasing the beauty of 23
different orchid species. Tawee painted
