Piriya Krairiksh, an artist with a Western education, pursued his secondary and
higher education in art in England. He later studied under the renowned Austrian
artist Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg, Austria. Kokoschka, an influential figure
among the Viennese Expressionists, significantly impacted Piriya9s expressionist
painting during the 1950s.

In this painting, Piriya used complementary colours to create intense contrasts,
such as yellow against purple, especially the sky9s red and tree branches against

Upon returning to Thailand, Piriya made a grand debut as an artist. In 1963,
he held a solo exhibition inaugurated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The King
