Fua Haribhitak, an artist with extensive experience, began
his education at Poh-Chang Academy of Arts and then
moved on to the School of Fine Arts (later renamed as
Silpakorn University). He travelled to Santiniketan, India,
for further studies and later returned to teach at Silpakorn
University. He then went on to study in Italy from 1954 to
1956. At that time, Fua was a 44-year-old artist with a
notable progression in modern painting. His works during
this period are highly valued examples of modern art.
Fua Haribhitak developed his painting style from Impressionism
in the 1920s to incorporating Cubism and Semi-Abstraction
from the 1940s to the 1950s. One of his significant works
from this period is

pastel tones. Fua achieved these pastel tones by mixing The portrait photograph of Fua
colours with white, creating a soft and gentle atmosphere. Haribhitak
The only vivid elements are the red dress and lips of the
nude model, which stand out prominently. The realistically
proportioned Western model is surrounded by a simplified
environment, where most elements are reduced to
geometric outlines, resembling Cubist paintings.
After returning from Italy in the late 1950s, Fua Haribhitak
shifted his focus away from modern painting. Instead,
he dedicated himself to conserving Thai mural paintings
in historical sites. This involved surveying, copying for
documentation, and restoring these artworks. Fua9s dedication
to both creative and conservation efforts earned him the
Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Service from the
Philippines in 1983, and he was honoured as a 8National
Artist9 by Thailand in 1985.
