At Poh-Chang Academy of Arts, Fua began painting in the Impressionist style,
a novel approach in Thailand. He disagreed with the art education system,
emphasising realism and traditional academic methods. Fua left Poh-Chang
Academy and enrolled in the School of Fine Arts (later Silpakorn University) as
part of its first cohort in 1934. However, he grew disillusioned with traditional
academic painting under Luang Phor Sridhara, prompting him to leave.
Nonetheless, he continued to study art theory and various painting
techniques under Professor Silpa Bhirasri as a particular case. Between 1940
and 1956, Fua pursued art studies in India and Italy, developing his painting
style into Cubism, Semi-Abstraction, and Abstraction, aligning with modern art
trends. In 1985, he was honoured as a 8National Artist9.
Fua9s interest in Thai art began in 1934 when Professor Silpa Bhirasri assigned
him to draw artefacts in Chiang Mai and Lamphun for educational purposes.
During his studies in India, he observed professors assigning students to
copy valuable ancient site paintings, deepening his interest in studying
and preserving national art. Upon returning to Thailand in 1946, Fua started
copying murals in the ordination halls of Wat Suthat and Wat Suwannaram
in Bangkok. His interest in Thai art grew, and by 1957, after achieving
success in modern art and being named an 8Outstanding Artist9 at the
National Art Exhibition, Fua shifted his focus to art conservation. He dedicated
himself to copying and restoring numerous murals across the country.
Fua9s efforts sparked an appreciation and recognition of Thai mural paintings
among government officials and scholars, both domestic and international. His
copied works became historical evidence for future study and research. Fua9s
expertise led to the establishment of the 8Thai Art Research9 course, which
eventually developed into the Thai Art Department at the Faculty of Painting
and Sculpture at Silpakorn University. After retiring, Fua served as an expert in
painting at Silpakorn University and continued his conservation work. He also
taught 8Thai Art Research9 at the College of Fine Arts for over a decade. His
dedication to art conservation earned him the Ramon Magsaysay Award for
Community Service from the Philippines in 1983.
One of his notable conservation works includes the mural
