Incorporated.
The Links, Inc. is a national professional women’s service
organization launched in 1949 focusing on civic, educational,
and cultural concerns. The Angel City (CA) Chapter was
chartered in 1963. The Achievement Trust is our non-pro昀椀t
corporate entity. Together we form a community-focused
organization to support our banner initiative: The Achiever
Program.
The Achiever Program
Our banner program premiered in l981. For 43 years
and counting the mission of the program has been to
combat the negative portrayal of African American men in the
media and our communities. The Achiever Program, serving
Los Angeles and surrounding areas, is a six-month program
of activities and workshops for African American men in
their senior year of high school. The goal of the program is
to prepare the young men to impact the world by providing
academic preparedness, civic responsibility, and moral
values. Our aim is to bridge the gap between high school
and college, ensuring persistence, retention, and college
completion, thus becoming better positioned to positively
impact their communities.
The Achiever Program is comprised of motivational workshops,
mentoring sessions, community service activities, and a

Personal Social Responsibility workshop. The “Personal
Development and Empowerment Intensive Seminars”
include information focused on success in the areas
of college preparation, advisement on scholarships and
昀椀nances, entrepreneurial skills, and guidance in community
involvement with an emphasis on contributing to their
community and society. Mentoring sessions, where
participants are paired with confreres from various
professions, allow frank and in-depth conversations
on pathways to success. Community service activities
included, working with the Colgate Dental Van, collecting
and assembling backpacks and hygiene kits for those
in need in Haiti. The Personal Social Responsibility workshop
is a unique event, tailored to meet the moment. Topics
include how to remain safe socially, political impact on
young people of color and using social media for positive in昀氀uence. Participants must attend all meetings and activities.
Awards and scholarships are granted based on 昀椀nancial
need, participants essays, artwork for our journal, academic
achievement and advertisement sales.
The Achiever program has successfully mentored over
1,400 young men and awarded more than 4 million dollars
in scholarships and grants. Our Alumni Achievers have paid
it forward through their own successful careers, contributing
昀椀nancially to the Program and volunteering as mentors.
The Achievement Trust is registered with the State of
California and the IRS as a 501(C)(3) and adheres to the
annual reporting processes required by both entities.
