Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
In a serendipitous convergence of friendship and relationships, The Angel City (CA) Chapter of The Links,
Incorporated, of Los Angeles, California in partnership with the Achievement Trust was instrumental
in establishing an endowed scholarship of $10,000 per annum from the estate of the late Michelle Davison.
Michelle Davison was a star of television and 昀椀lm. According to her dear friend, Link Alice Desobry Bowens,
Davison was a warm-hearted individual who loved animals and young people and wanted to leave a
legacy of 昀椀nancial assistance to both. Thanks to her bequest to The Angel City (CA) Links, Incorporated for the
Achievement Trust, her kind generosity will live on.
Ms. Davison was a well-known stage, television, and movie actress. One of her most well-known and memorable
performances was as Denzel Washington’s mother in the 2002 昀椀lm “Antwone Fisher” and she was also the 昀椀rst
black woman to hold a full-time contract in a soap opera (“The Bold and the Beautiful.”) She appeared on dozens
of other television shows and soap operas.
Ms. Davison was a supporter of young people and an animal lover as well. When she untimely passed away in
2006, she acknowledged both interests by leaving a wonderful gift to the Achievement Trust with the proviso
that her gift be used for the benefit of future students of veterinary medicine. The Achievement Trust is
enormously grateful to Ms. Davison for her generous and thoughtful gift of $105,000.00 and all rights to her
will administer the funds with 昀椀delity to her wishes and careful stewardship for the bene昀椀t of future Achievers.
In Los Angeles, the Late Link Bowens and Links Sisters, Anjetta Venters Bowles, Tracy Callicoatte Page and
others worked diligently in collaboration with Tuskegee University’s Dr. Quinn-Gorham, Coordinator of
Educational Programs and Instructional Programs in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Dean Perry.
Corren Freeman, our 昀椀rst scholarship recipient, completed his doctorate degree, graduated, and was named a
Successful Preceptorship Student at the National Institutes of Health (NIH, 2017) in Bethesda, Maryland. The
2nd scholarship recipient, Randolph Green, completed his doctorate degree in 2021. Dr. Green graduated with
an overall GPA of 3.73 and was number 4 in his class.
Our newest scholarship recipient is Jordy Oriantal. He is currently matriculating at Tuskegee College of
Veterinary Medicine. We are proud to continue providing scholarships to deserving students.
