CASE STUDY
WATER FRAMEWORK
REAPING DIVIDENDS
FOR TEC MEMBERS
As we enter our 4th year of the TEC Water Framework going live, we are pleased to share that the joint
effort of the 76 members currently live with the framework is resulting in over £1 million in savings per
annum vs default contract rates, with each member saving on average 5% on their annual water and
wastewater bill.
We have seen some huge successes from members installing
AMRs (Automatic Meter Readers) to help highlight unidentified
water consumption and putting in place water management
strategies to help support the reduction of water consumption
and spend.
The Benefits
The Victoria & Albert Museum benefited from installing AMR
devices in May 2023. The meters identified two events of
unusual water consumption, triggering investigations that
helped to resolve the issue. It is estimated that if left unidentified,
the excess water consumption would have led to an annual
water loss of 24,090m3 and cost of £52,192.
• Quick and simple route to market
• Access to specialist procurement and sectoral
knowledge
• Smooth transition process from incumbent supplier
• Legacy issues addressed and resolved
• Support with driving down consumption and spend
What Our Members Say
A Water Partnership in Action
Working together with our Water Framework supplier Wave
Utilities, TEC’s managed service helps to ensure the basics
are correct whilst supporting members to drive down water
consumption and spend.
TEC continue to work with the water market governing bodies
and key stakeholders such as OFWAT (Water Services
Regulation Authority), MOSL (Market Operator Systems
Limited) and CCW (Consumer Council for Water) to help
drive the market forward for the benefit of TEC members
and business customers alike.
Supporting the Transition
When members join the Water Framework, they can often have
legacy issues outstanding with their incumbent supplier - from
sites not being billed for a long period of time or incorrect
charges. Working to successfully resolve these issues is part
of the on-boarding process for members and the managed
service that TEC provide.

• Attractive cost savings vs current default tariffs
The University of Derby joined the TEC Water Framework in
May 2023.
“I’m very impressed with how smooth the
onboarding process was and how smoothly
the billing has run since the transfer. Unlike
previous suppliers, Wave have been happy
to address legacy issues. It is reassuring to
work with a partner organisation that has
the knowledge and experience to address
long standing problems and work with us
on future projects.”
