The Leeds Jug is a study in white, with the two vessels that are the focus of the work surrounded attheir base by starkly white pearl onions on an off-white tablecloth. A brooch comprises Mindy’s counterpart inspiration work, with the colors of turquoise and dark and light pinks most prominent, as wellas whites, dark silvers, and a gold that is nearly identical in color to the frame in which the paintingis mounted. Look closely, and you’ll see that the whites in the brooch appear to be tiny pearlescentcrystals, which may serve as a tip of the hat to the pearl onions at the foot of the jug in the painting.Above: Homme Couture Collection: BroochTurquoise, Swarovski crystals, vintage broochesCourtesy of the ArtistRight: Emil Carlsen (American, born Denmark, 1853-1932)The Leeds Jug (detail), 1920Oil on canvasTaubman Museum of ArtAcquired with Funds Provided by the Horace G.
